About the Author:

Hello readers, fellow writers and bloggers! Yes that's me, standing in White Sands New Mexico, a location included in my first book Released.

I have been writing all my life and after tons of rejections and being scammed by certain companies, whom I will name, (cough PublishAmerica cough), I have decided to self-publish. After being burned so many times, I was hesitant to start back up again, but with encouragement from my husband I regained my confidence and jumped back onto the crazy roller coaster, that is the writing world.

It wasn't a hard decision and I am looking forward to getting my feet wet in the this new avenue of publication.

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, and no I don't live in a casino, but I do live with my husband and my cat Jack, who thinks he is a dog.

An Excerpt:

Derek’s warm hands cupped my face, his thumb brushed against my barely parted lips as the green in his eyes deepened, giving way to the inner turmoil he felt with what he was about to do, and I held my breath. In the span of a heartbeat, his eyes closed and his lips were pressed against mine, moving in a soft, slow way. I kissed him back, allowing his lips, the feel of his touch, and the taste of his tongue to erase everything else about tonight. I forgot about the neighbors that could be watching. I forgot about Missy asleep on the couch and Kyle passed out a few feet away in the Jeep. I forgot about everything including what this moment meant and how it would change everything between us. I only thought of how I’d finally gotten what I had always wanted—Derek.

He pulled away, releasing my lips and my face at the same time. “How was that, any better than Cal Carlson?”

I didn’t respond at first. Instead, I raised my fingertips to touch my lips, saddened from the departure of his and curious to see if they felt any different, because I felt different, everything felt different. That kiss had changed everything that ever was between us, and I wondered if Derek knew, if he understood what had just happened, what he’d just done.

“Yeah, it was,” I said, my voice sounding soft and breathy. I dropped my hand to my side and swallowed hard. Blinking once, I realized Derek was staring at me, smirking like a fool. “It definitely didn’t suck,” I confirmed flashing him a mirror image smile of his own.

“Good to know,” he said with a little nod of his head, his eyes the perfect mixture of smugness and sheepishness. He shoved his hands back into his front pockets before sauntering back to his Jeep.

An Excerpt
This is the end of chapter five, after a very intense scene.

Once I shut the door behind me, I felt as if the imaginary director had yelled “cut”, letting me finally involuntarily collapse to my knees. I closed my eyes, sitting on my heels with my hands resting on my thighs, slowly filtering in a shaky breath. What the hell just happened? I wanted to hear Sean’s voice to soothe me, but I didn’t have the strength to grab my phone from inside my purse, which I had thrown to the bed a moment before my collapse.

Suddenly I heard a knock at my door. Damn. I opened my eyes before my hands helped lift me back to my feet. I knew my mom would definitely question me if she found me on the floor like that. I breathed out two deep sighs in order to calm my expression before I was ready. Action, I thought.

“Come in,” I said.

The door opened, but it wasn’t my mother. It was Sean that peeked his head through the frame gap, before stepping inside my room and shutting the door behind him. I didn’t waste the time to rush him. I wrapped my arms underneath his as I laid my head to his chest. The instant warmth of his presence lifted me to a better place.

“I thought you had to work late,” I said.

“I just got back and felt like I should stop by and see you.” I felt him gently pat the back of my hair comfortingly. “Is everything all right?”

“I don’t know how you do it,” I said.

“Do what?”

“Make yourself appear right when I need you. But I’m glad that you do.”

“It’s a gift. Now are you going to tell me what’s wrong?”

I finally stepped back to look up at him. But now in the moment of truth, I knew that I couldn’t say anything. I couldn’t be the reason that Sean lost his friends. But I also knew that was what Ross and Nick were hoping on, and I wasn’t keeping quiet for their sake. I have to tell him. I opened my mouth, but still nothing came out. I curled my fingers into fists, looking for the courage to speak.

“I got . . . ” This was my chance as my tongue lingered with the words. Say it. “Freaked out earlier.”

Sean narrowed his gaze with a prepared anger. “Freaked out by what?”

I gulped, not quite sure why this was so hard to say. I hadn’t even begun to wrap my head around Liam Alexander. “I forgot my purse, and when I went back for it the janitor was really creepy.” I rolled my eyes for dramatics with a small shrug. “But you know how my imagination can be.”

I sighed with the guilt weighing me down like lead. I’ll admit the janitor wasn’t going to be my friend but he didn’t deserve the persona I was building of him. I expected a lecture of any kind for being stupid enough to not bring a friend with me. I even welcomed it in order to serve as punishment for lying.

Instead Sean merely pulled his neck back to gaze at me with his brow lifted. “Are you sure that’s all?”

I nodded, maybe a little too much. It wasn’t as if he knew I was lying but more that I wasn’t telling the truth. Luckily he was choosing to ignore it, and I was grateful.

My eyes shifted to the floor with guilt.

“I know it sounds a bit childish, but would you stay until I fall asleep?”

“Sure,” he said.

I wasn’t sure how long it would take me to fall asleep, but I was glad Sean had stayed to do what he had always done best, protect me. Lucky for him, I would have no problem staying away from Liam Alexander now. I wasn’t even sure where to begin with Liam. My mind could barely decipher the idea of what I had seen, let alone how to articulate it into words.

There must be an explanation for it all, but for now I laid under the covers, moving to curl into Sean, with my head rested on the warmth of his chest. It was like sunshine that radiated around my body. The warmth on my skin was like that sensation of hot water from the shower on a cold day. Just being near him made me feel better.

“Sean,” I said.

“Yeah, Em?”

“I’ll stay away from Liam.”

There was a few seconds of silence where I felt like I could almost see his eyes shift away with a smile of accomplishment.

“Why now? Did something happen with him tonight?”

I shook my head, while my mind knew the opposite. “No, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that I believe you. There is something strange about him.” I paused to exhale at the memory of tonight. “So, you don’t have to worry about him anymore.”

I thought of how different things would be if Sean had seen what I did. He would surely be even more protective of me. But if he had known, then it would be something he would have already told me. Even if I knew how hypocritical I seemed by withholding what I had seen tonight.

I felt Sean’s light, comforting kiss on my scalp before he laid his head on top of my own. “Promise?”

I sighed into the warm silence crawling around the two of us.

“I promise.”

Scarlet Woods by Brooke Passmore

Title - Scarlet Woods (Book 1)
Author - Brooke Passmore
Genre - Fantasy, YA
Pages - 480
Edition - eBook
Release Date - December 2012

Synopsis:

Past, future, and love all exist in the door through time.

Modern and independent seventeen year old Morgan Westbrook thought she had seen all there was to her home town of Scarlet, Georgia, but one day while walking in the woods behind her house she discovers a mysterious door masked behind the trees. After admiring the door’s timeless beauty she walks through its entrance to venture into more woods, but what she doesn’t know is that the door is a gateway through time that takes her back to the year 1863 during the days of the Civil War in Scarlet.

Without knowing that she had traveled back in time, she stumbles upon Danny Carson, an attractive young man who is appalled to see that Morgan is wearing skimpy modern clothes instead of a nineteenth century dress. Although they find each other completely different than anyone they’ve ever known, they cannot help but feel drawn to one another. After spending time in another century, she discovers that she's time traveled back to the year 1863 and that the door took her there. For months she and Danny journey back and forth through the door to experience the joys of traveling to both of their centuries. When dilemmas of unwanted marriage, slavery, and war are thrown at them, they must face the perils that time travel has delivered them in both the future and the past.

Author Bio:

I live in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and am a 22 year old young woman who probably will
never fully grow up. As a kid I played with Polly Pockets, swam in my swimming pool practically every day during the summer, and went on vacations to Disney World with my family (favorite days of my life). I loved telling stories as a kid by playing with my Polly’s and dressing up like princesses with my friends. Eventually everything that went on in my busy imagination I wrote down on paper in the late hours of the night.

When I was in sixth grade I moved into a new house with woods directly behind my backyard. I’d walk about the woods and loved trampling through the creek or getting lost in the trees. These trips through the woods gave me my inspiration for my book trilogy Scarlet Woods. My main character in my book is Morgan who lives in a house where the woods are right behind her backyard. My love for trees and anything woodsy definitely shows in my book and I hope I painted a pretty picture in readers’ heads about what Scarlet Woods looks like.

Looks like Christmas has come early this year... In all honesty I haven't asked for any books this year due to the amount of books coming in from my letterbox. Now look at those review copies... Dream Eyes, was a total surprise and I haven't read the series, but I love a good Fantasy series, So I can't wait to read it! The Lost Girl and Seraphina are from the same publisher and they have had some brilliant reviews. Seraphina is one of those sub-genres of YA that I haven't read before... I never really read the Eragon series so it will be a completely new experience for me! Fated I was totally surprised by... Alyson Noel is a flawless author and I will read anything she writes, she is one of my favourite writers since reading The Immortals. Quantum Drop, Siege and The Day I met Suzie are all proof reads which I am very excited to have received. I have nice selection so far for 2013 haven't I!? (Eeeeeek) Confessions of an Angry Girl, I have heard so many brilliant reviews, it will also be a very different type of book that I haven't read much of before. The Hallowed Ones is for a Blog Tour and I was very lucky to receive a physical copy of the book! Can't wait for January!

NetGalley has been a great week! I have restricted myself from requesting too many so I'm very excited for these books especially Sister Assassin and Geek Girl!

Finally, I couldn't believe the offer that was in my local bookstore for the Iron Fey Series. 3 for £5 (+ £1.99)  for the WHOLE series! (*Shock Face*) I couldn't resist! I loved the Lost Prince and even though I read them in the wrong order, I'm looking forward to getting to know Puck! *Swoon*

This may be my last Showcase of this Year... So I'll look forward to many more to come in 2013!

Feature & Follow (#16)

Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that is designed to provide some much-appreciated exposure to the bloggers participating, and to expand their following. Hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, each of whom feature a chosen blog for the week, it's an interesting way to get to know one another.

Q: What is the last book that made you cry? Tell us about the scene...

A: That is such a great question... Recently I've finshed the lastest in the Morganville Series! Here are my Reviews! There's one book in that series that I haven't not shed a tear. But the most I have cried was in Last Breath... It was the happiest moment in the whole series and it just made you stomach flutter with joy! Here's a quote that I have used before but it describes it perfectly for you:

"Promise me you’ll marry me. Not now. Someday. Because I need to know.”
Claire felt a flutter inside, like a bird trying to fly, and a rush of heat that made her dizzy. And something else, something fragile as a soap bubble, and just as beautiful. Joy, in the middle of all this horror and heartbreak.
“Yes,” she whispered back. “I promise.”
Doesn't your heart just melt! I love Shane *Swooooon*

What book made you cry? I love to know... Leave your blog's FF link below and I will be sure to 'hop' on over...

Also Check out my 300 Follower Giveaway for a chance to win a book of your choice up to the value of £10!!!! Good Luck!

Blog Tour: Fate's Wish - Review

Title - Fate's Wish
Author - Milly Taiden
Genre - Paranormal Erotica
Pages - 100
Publisher - Etopia Press
Source - Blog Tour

The man she loves left her, but he’s the only one that can protect her.

Sharmila is a witch with a problem. Her magic is waning. And her lack of sex may have something to do with it. Her mother’s solution? Easy. Sharmila needs to get laid. Easier said than done, though, because Shar is still in love with the only man to make her melt, Zahir Darkwrath. Her missing husband. Her demon.

Zahir knows he’s a danger to Shar, so he’s done his best to stay far away. Darkness flows through his being, and when emotions run wild, destruction rages around him. And sex with Shar is definitely wild. Staying away from the woman he loves is the hardest thing he’s ever done, but hurting her would be far worse. So he’s astounded when Shar’s mother hires his company to watch over her.

Evil is heading Shar’s way, and Zahir is the only one who can stop it. To save her, Zahir will need more than control; he’ll need the power of his own darkness--which might be his undoing.
My Review:

When I saw this Blog Tour, I couldn't really resist! Sometimes when you read a lot YA books, sometimes I like to go outside my comfort zone and experience other genres I like! I know its Erotica not something for a blog like this! But for a novella it really wasn't that bad at all!

What I loved about it was the Paranormal concept to the novella. Sharmillia is a witch that has literally lost her power and strength. She was at her prime when she was in a relationship, but after having a rough break up she has denied her needs as a woman. But what she hasn't considered is that is what fuels her strength and power as the protagonist of the novel. Sharmilla is a very contented woman, who enjoy the daily work of her own business yet she know there is something missing without her magic!

There is also an element of her character that I just love, her mother! From the beginning she scrutinises her daughter about her needs. As a reader it not only cringes Shar but also myself. Having your own mother talk about such a thing must be a very embarrassing and I feel for her! Her mother is like her personal cupid! She takes the matters into her own hands and contacts Zahir, a Warlock and one is fuelled by his own dark magic lingering in the air.

Apart from Shar's lack of power, her mother has sensed a growing darkness in her home. By contacting her ex, she know she will have full protection as a magical fuelled being as well as a bodyguard as part of his daily job. At first his character can be contrasting when he associates with Shar bringing back the memories of being her husband. He loved her so much, that he knew the way to protect was to leave her. I loved his persona; he is a content and down-to-earth character beneath the hardcore and powerful alpha male that he is portrayed as.

Overall, I loved the paranormal concept of an Erotcia novella. Its fast-paced, action-packed, steamy romance with the suspense throughout the whole book!

Rating: 4

Thank you for Bewitching Blog Tours and Milly Taiden for letting me read this for an honest review!

ARC Review - Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black

Title - Dance of Shadows (Dance of Shadows #1)
Author - Yelena Black
Genre - YA Paranormal
Pages - 447
Publisher - Bloomsbury
Source - ARC

Dancing with someone is an act of trust. Elegant and intimate; you're close enough to kiss, close enough to feel your partner's heartbeat. But for Vanessa, dance is deadly – and she must be very careful who she trusts . . .

Vanessa Adler attends an elite ballet school – the same one her older sister, Margaret, attended before she disappeared. Vanessa feels she can never live up to her sister's shining reputation. But Vanessa, with her glorious red hair and fair skin, has a kind of power when she dances – she loses herself in the music, breathes different air, and the world around her turns to flames . . .

Soon she attracts the attention of three men: gorgeous Zep, mysterious Justin, and the great, enigmatic choreographer Josef Zhalkovsky. When Josef asks Vanessa to dance the lead in the Firebird, she has little idea of the danger that lies ahead – and the burning forces about to be unleashed

My Review:

Dance can either make you or break you!

That is what Vanessa thought! Vanessa doesn't care that she got into the post prestigious Ballet school in New York. She has a higher purpose that she must complete in order to have a clear conscience. Vanessa thought she was on her own, she has lived her life in doubt and uncertainity. When her parents gave up the search of her missing sister Margaret , she knew she had a duty and purpose to herself to uncover what really happened a NYBA.

Vanessa's character is flawless, yet her steps are out of sequence. To regain her balance she must believe and feel the dance. Being the protagonist of the novel, she has high expectations to achieve and she achieved them through her outstanding plié's. Her character is portrayed as a very courageous  caring and confident young woman, her intelligence and maturity rewards her for being only 15 years old. What I loved about her character was her personality, she has such a complicated yet beautiful characteristics about her that you feel elated yet you sympathise with her development of emotion and as a character throughout the whole novel.

Her character as a Ballerina is pure magic and is completely fresh to myself as a reader. I adored her passion for dancing and how she embraces. However Yelena creates a character of a typical teenager in love and the passion of enjoying a new life experience  When Yelena combines the two she create such a unique, fresh and magical character that your left inspired to Dance and conquer and new purpose of your own life!

Zeppelin Gray is a Senior and most talent Ballet dancer out of the whole Academy! Yet his intentions for being a ballet vary and develop throughout the whole novel. I adored him from the beginning and thought, 'Yeah, it just going to be nice teenage romance, nothings going to happen'. But looks can be deceiving. His purpose as the lead Ballet dancer in the production changed to something dark and sinister. His intentions evolved and left Vanessa in a weaken position in the relationship. Between them, they had the 'spark' but not without the growing baggage that both character carried around. Yelena was very clever to add that twist and I loved how she structured his character and personality to integrate with novel.

"The legs," he said, motioning to her muscular thighs. "The hair. The wild look in your eyes. You dance like you're a feral animal." He shook his head. "You're nothing like your sister, but you could be better. I think -" He held up his finger. I think you could be tremendous. Frighting, but tremendous."

But then there is Justin... His looming curiosity and creepy presence over the sister of Margaret, clearly shows his interest in her. But his interest grows when she is casted as the lead of the Firebird product. This particular production has a certain dance that could become fatal to Vanessa but also the cause of Margaret’s disappearance. When Justin wants to help Vanessa, his appearance is strong yet conflicted with emotion. However, his intentions may be truthful but his is

What I loved about this book was the growing amount of characters in the novel; her group of friends is something that I envy the most. They make you happy and they are always there for you. They are the perfect set of friends and they make you believed in yourself and chose the right and better decisions of life. My favourite of the group was Blaine, his character and personality brought the group to get her and made that much significant and unbreakable. Amongst other characters the most essential characters brought the book to life by plaguing it with the evil and damn right awful conditions that the dancers have to endure.

I thoroughly enjoyed and the cover is the most beautiful, I've seen to date. I would fully recommend this novel, if you are or aren't a dancing fan or the twist that comes with it! The characters, the plot and the very the clever twists has brought a very high expectation of this debut novel by Yelena Black!

Rating: 4.5 Butterflies

Blog Tour - Find You in the Dark by A. Meredith Walters

Maggie Young had the market on normal. Normal friends, normal parents, normal grades...normal life.

Until him.
Clayton Reed was running from his past and an army of personal demons that threatened to take him down. He never thought he had a chance at happiness.
Until her.
Maggie thought their love could overcome anything. Clay thought she was all he needed to fix his messy life. That together, they could face the world. But the darkness is always waiting.

Sometimes the greatest obstacle to true love is within yourself.

My Review

I'm on not usually one that would read about disturbing and self-harming novels but this one is something very different indeed.

Maggie is just a normal girl living next door when she literally bumps in to him. Maggie is perceived as a tom-boy as she rarely shows her try colours. She is very down-to-earth character yet she hates the attention that surrounds her. Maggie is an independent, strong and courageous character. She tends to be surrounded by her little group of friends that she has known all her life; (character names). However, Maggie's is also portrayed as the anchor in a relationship, whether its her friends or her family. Maggie's character is well-built and the strength of her character vibrates through you as the reader. She is very influential and also very controlling in her own way. When Mags meets Clayton, her whole world changes and she can't seem to get enough with him. At beginning it became a protection of necessity to be around him, then it became an intoxication. However, Maggie's character changes, something very controversial and conflicting to her own abilities before. Clayton is a great guy and makes her become someone different and loving yet she become erratic and impulsive to her closer circle. She is a beacon of unstable energy!

Clayton Reed is one of those characters that give you lip-lash! When you first run into him, literally, you think that its going to be those instant connections that can't help but want more, much more. However there is more to the character that meets the eye, and very disturbed and difficult child that lives within him. He got into a bad situation when he was younger and now he lives with his Aunt and her partner. They are the best thing that has happened in his life. He is being taken cared for and loved. That's all he wanted from his parents.

“What is it?" I asked breathlessly.
"I love you so much. Sometimes it hurts.""I don't want it to hurt, Clay. Our love should make you feel wonderful.”
Clay has two personalities, two sides to the puzzle that Maggie wants so hard to figure out and let him express with feeling. One minute Clay is the sensitive, loving, cuddly character when all be wants is protect Mags. He is the hero of the both sides and I love that side of his character who wouldn't? But Clay is a switch... Flick the switch and he's catatonic, frantic, angry, predatory and hurts that ones he is closest too more. Clay's dark side is...so horrible. Its so hard to describe because its so emotional and his character is so inter grated into the story, into Mags and into the reader, yourself. Your just completely absorbed by his persona and such strong powerful emotions, its hard not to fell anything.

Find you in the Dark is a pendulum of hope and despair. The roll coaster of emotion that you will endure in this book will leave you feeling emotionally drained. It sounds like a critic, but it isn't. The pace and consist any of the novel gets so erratic that's it hard to feel like that. Clayton behaviour and language is fused by the impulsive and erratic emotions which influence the authors structure of the book.

Rating 4.5

Feature & Follow (#15)

Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that is designed to provide some much-appreciated exposure to the bloggers participating, and to expand their following. Hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, each of whom feature a chosen blog for the week, it's an interesting way to get to know one another.

Q: Activity! Who do you want to be? If you could choose any character from a book. What do you think that character looks like and what do you have in common?

A: I love this question. Well for me the obvious answer would be Bella from Twilight!! I mean who wouldn't be married to Edward with a gorgeous baby girl surrounded by a vampire family! Just Perfect! And as I saw the film yesterday... Eeeeeeeeeeeeeep! I'm definitely going to say Bella!

But If I was another character from a book I would choose my ultimate favourite Vampire series... Buffy the Vampire Slayer, old I know! But the kick-ass fighting and being in love with Angel *Swoon* Who wouldn't be Buffy!

What I have in common with each character there love and care of the families and friends they share... Cullen Family and Willow, Xander and Giles!

So there you have it, the most likely characters that I would Love to be!

What character do you want to be? I love to know... Leave your blog's FF link below and I will be sure to 'hop' on over...

FALL IN LOVE FOR THE FIRST TIME... AGAIN

In addition to being an author, I work as an entrepreneur, wife and mother-of-one but spend a good deal of time with books, DVDs and listening to my mp3 player; all for the sake of inspiration, of course.

My debut series, The Oxford Trilogy, has been a blast to write because I can indulge in my favorite types of music: Country and English rock.

My main goal as a writer is to make readers dream bigger and cause their hearts to beat a little faster.
Since my writing is all about sharing dreams and stories, I love connecting with fellow readers and authors.
